Movie trailer obsession

For some reason I have a strange obsession with watching movie trailers. I realize that doesn't sound that weird, but I just tend to watch the trailers and rarely ever get around to actually going and seeing any of the movies. This is partly due to the fact some of them don't play here and partly that I get so tired of seeing the trailer and hearing about the movie I stop having and desire to see it.

I also have a strange system in going about picking which movies trailers I want to watch. I usually look at apple trailers and just skim through and pick all of the movies with the most interesting look posters and titles, usually I can guess what sort of movie they will be based on this. After I watch the trailer I'll read the synopsis, IF I liked it, otherwise I move on. Comingsoon.net is also great for movie trailers.

Anyway since I'm tired and I can't force myself to concentrate on marxism right now I'm gonna review some trailers!

(In no particular order)
Miral

Genre:Drama, Foreign
Director:Julian Schnabel
Cast:Hiam Abbass, Frieda Pinto, Omar Metwally

Appears to be about a girl who gets the opportunity to be educated, but then decides she wants to rebel, but instead of the regular teenage rebellious behaviour she joins a terrorist group! Yay, that'll make mom and dad proud! It appears that she gets caught, falls in love and is shunned by her family and school mistress, but I could be wrong. Anyway it looks interesting, but I probably wouldn't see it, seems like another pretty girl being tricked into a bad situation by a man she loves. Did I mention she's 17 and he's like, old? Ick. I must say though, I do really enjoy the poster, very intriguing and the political aspects of the movie do interest me, I just don't really like the girls character.

The Collector

Genre: Drama
Director: Darian Lane
Cast: Kate Siegel, Rudolf Martin, Alexander Greer, George Frazier, Jamie Elvy

This movie looks terrible. Or it could be great. Either way I'm pretty sure it's a love story about this chick that "collects" guys, I guess cause she's super hot n'shit, whatever, bored already. Anyway the trailer basically shows nothing about what the movie is about, she has a brother, she lives in miami, she has a shitty job, she has a car, oh and look! She likes to make out with a lot of guys, then stand around in skimpy outfits at art galleries... yeah probs wont see this one either, I don't even know what I watched it cause the poster isn't even interesting.

Water for Elephants

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox/waterforelephants/
Genre: Drama
Director: Francis Lawrence
Cast: Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson, Christoph Waltz

This one I actually really want to see, it just looks cute and magical and shit. Okay it does also look pretty cheesy, whatevs it's about the circus and it has reese witherspoon and Robert Pattinson, whom I maybe, possibly have a crush on. I know he can't really act and he was in Twilight which basically ruins his career as a serious actor, but he's still a babe, okay! (and yes I realize the only people whom agree are 12 girls :( ). I also realized after I started watching the trailer I've already seen it like half a dozen times... which is weird that I forgot the title.

When Harry Tries To Marry

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/whenharrytriestomarry/
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Director: Nayan Padrai
Cast: Rahul Rai, Freishia Bomambehran, Stefanie Estes

The poster looks pretty cheesy, but the name intrigued me, an obvious play on "When Harry Met Sally". The movie looks cute and predicable, I like the twist of the son wanting an arranged marriage, interesting social implications there. I don't think I'd go out of my way to see this, but it still looks intriguing.

Hanna

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/hanna/
Genre: Action and Adventure
Director: Joe WrightCast:Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hollander, Olivia Williams, Jason Flemyng
Writers: Seth Lochhead, David Farr

This looks interesting. The beginning was sorta creepy and awesome, then it turned into a regular sorta action movie. The young girl has been trained by her father (an ex-CIA agent) to be an assassin and is sent off to kill a woman, who I imagine will be her mother, or have some surprising connection to the main character, cause that's how these movies work. I doubt I'd go see it, but I might watch it online or something, I always like strong feel leads, especially in action movies.

The Bang Bang Club

Genre:Action and Adventure
Director:Steven Silver
Cast:Ryan Phillippe, Malin Akerman, Taylor Kitsch

This looks awesome. It's about four combat photographers who are in South Africa and they're photographing in the first free election in post Apartheid South Africa in the early 90s. I have to say I love movies about Africa for some reason... okay I'm lying I loved Hotel Rwanda, but still this looks good and the guys are babes, no reason not to see it :). Also I think they don't make enough movies about photographers, I guess making a movie about a guy who spends all of his time at the beach taking pretty pictures would be dull, but I'm sure there are some personalities out there they could make movies about!

The Princess of Montpensier

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/theprincessofmontpensier/
Genre: Action and Adventure, Drama, Foreign
Director: Bertrand Tavernier
Cast: Melanie Thierry, Lambert Wilson, Gaspard Ulliel, Gregoire Leprince-Ringuet, Raphael Personnaz

The post for this one intruiged me cause I like historical fictions. The movie looks terrible though, it probably could have been good in the right hands, but it appears to be about a girl who's in love with one guy and is forced to marry another. Sorta reminds me of The Duchess, expect this is the french version. It also appears to have the French's favourite cinematic topic in it: sex. And a lot of it. That's all great and dandy, IF the movie has a good plot line. The only reason I would see it is because it's about the Protestant/catholic war, which could be kinda neat, but otherwise the trailer looks boring.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/snowflowerandthesecretfan/
Genre: Drama
Director: Wayne Wang
Writers: Ron Bass, Angela Workman, Michael Ray

This looks really cool! It's about two best friends who aren't just best friends throughout one life time, but throughout a bunch! There is also a book, which I want to read now. It does have the potential to be pretty cheesy, but from what I gleaned from the trail it looks to beautiful not to watch, I'd just see it for the cinematography, costumes and sets.

Queen To Play

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/queentoplay/
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Foreign
Director: Caroline Bottaro
Cast: Sandrine Bonnaire, Kevin Kline, Jennifer Beals, Valerie Lagrange, Francis Renaud

This looks cute-ish. It's about a woman who decides to play chess. Then there's all this drama cause her family doesn't want her too. I don't get it either. Chess, seriously? I'm possibly missing something or this movie just has a really strange premise. Anyway, def wouldn't see it and I'm also missing the part where it's a 'romance' I saw no romance happening in that trailer...maybe they gave to much to The Princess of Montpensier, who knows :P.

The Vintner's Luck

Links: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/thevintnersluck/
Genre:Drama, Romance
Director:Niki Caro
Cast:Jérémie Renier, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Vania Vilers, Eric Godon, Patrice Valota, François Beukelaers, Gaspard Ulliel, Stephane Garneau, Juliette Mariotte, Finn Van Mell, Charlotte Cheveau, Felicity-Amore Castle-Hughes, Julie Berthoux, Vera Farmiga, Jean-Louis Sbille

This one looks different and I want to see it! It's about a wine maker who meets a fallen angel who inspires him. I know that sounds strange, but it doesn't look that bad, really! I just like the scenery etc, can't help it that I'm hella visual! And the chick from Whale-Rider plays his wife :).

The Desert of Forbidden Art

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/thedesertofforbiddenart/
Genre:Documentary
Director:Tchavdar Georgiev, Amanda Pope

I immediately clicked on this when I saw the Soviet flag, even though I don't really watch documentaries that much. I just have a weird fascination with the USSR. This looks really really cool! It's about all of the art work which was banned durning the reign of the soviets! Some of it is stunning. All modernist looking art work (don't quote me on that I don't know what I'm talking about). I love art, and am fascinated with the USSR so I definitely want to see this one!

Heartbeats

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/heartbeats/
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Director: Xavier DolanCast:Xavier Dolan, Monia Chokri, Neils Schneider

This looks sort of okay... kind of just another indie love story... a love triangle non-the-less. But the clothing! BEAUTIFUL! I just about died when I saw that purple dress! Love 60's fashion :). And the girl's Audrey-Hepburn-Breakfast-At-Tiffany's do, Win! Also love Audrey Hepburn. I'd just see this movie for that, oh and not to mention the guys awesome stick-up-edward-esque hair, so great :P.

I was gonna post reviews of more trailers, but I just realized how long this already is, so ima stop posting them now. Maybe I'll do another post in the future, this was kinda fun!
