Movie trailer obsession

For some reason I have a strange obsession with watching movie trailers. I realize that doesn't sound that weird, but I just tend to watch the trailers and rarely ever get around to actually going and seeing any of the movies. This is partly due to the fact some of them don't play here and partly that I get so tired of seeing the trailer and hearing about the movie I stop having and desire to see it.

I also have a strange system in going about picking which movies trailers I want to watch. I usually look at apple trailers and just skim through and pick all of the movies with the most interesting look posters and titles, usually I can guess what sort of movie they will be based on this. After I watch the trailer I'll read the synopsis, IF I liked it, otherwise I move on. Comingsoon.net is also great for movie trailers.

Anyway since I'm tired and I can't force myself to concentrate on marxism right now I'm gonna review some trailers!

(In no particular order)
Miral

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/weinstein/miral/
Genre:Drama, Foreign
Director:Julian Schnabel
Cast:Hiam Abbass, Frieda Pinto, Omar Metwally

Appears to be about a girl who gets the opportunity to be educated, but then decides she wants to rebel, but instead of the regular teenage rebellious behaviour she joins a terrorist group! Yay, that'll make mom and dad proud! It appears that she gets caught, falls in love and is shunned by her family and school mistress, but I could be wrong. Anyway it looks interesting, but I probably wouldn't see it, seems like another pretty girl being tricked into a bad situation by a man she loves. Did I mention she's 17 and he's like, old? Ick. I must say though, I do really enjoy the poster, very intriguing and the political aspects of the movie do interest me, I just don't really like the girls character.

Genre: Drama, Foreign
Director: Julian Schnabel
Cast: Hiam Abbass, Frieda Pinto, Omar Metwally

The Collector

Link:  http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/thecollector/
Genre: Drama
Director: Darian Lane
Cast: Kate Siegel, Rudolf Martin, Alexander Greer, George Frazier, Jamie Elvy

This movie looks terrible. Or it could be great. Either way I'm pretty sure it's a love story about this chick that "collects" guys, I guess cause she's super hot n'shit, whatever, bored already. Anyway the trailer basically shows nothing about what the movie is about, she has a brother, she lives in miami, she has a shitty job, she has a car, oh and look! She likes to make out with a lot of guys, then stand around in skimpy outfits at art galleries... yeah probs wont see this one either, I don't even know what I watched it cause the poster isn't even interesting.

Water for Elephants

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox/waterforelephants/
Genre: Drama
Director: Francis Lawrence
Cast: Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson, Christoph Waltz

This one I actually really want to see, it just looks cute and magical and shit. Okay it does also look pretty cheesy, whatevs it's about the circus and it has reese witherspoon and Robert Pattinson, whom I maybe, possibly have a crush on. I know he can't really act and he was in Twilight which basically ruins his career as a serious actor, but he's still a babe, okay! (and yes I realize the only people whom agree are 12 girls :( ). I also realized after I started watching the trailer I've already seen it like half a dozen times... which is weird that I forgot the title.

When Harry Tries To Marry

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/whenharrytriestomarry/
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Director: Nayan Padrai
Cast: Rahul Rai, Freishia Bomambehran, Stefanie Estes

The poster looks pretty cheesy, but the name intrigued me, an obvious play on "When Harry Met Sally". The movie looks cute and predicable, I like the twist of the son wanting an arranged marriage, interesting social implications there. I don't think I'd go out of my way to see this, but it still looks intriguing.

Hanna

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/hanna/
Genre: Action and Adventure
Director: Joe WrightCast:Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hollander, Olivia Williams, Jason Flemyng
Writers: Seth Lochhead, David Farr

This looks interesting. The beginning was sorta creepy and awesome, then it turned into a regular sorta action movie. The young girl has been trained by her father (an ex-CIA agent) to be an assassin and is sent off to kill a woman, who I imagine will be her mother, or have some surprising connection to the main character, cause that's how these movies work. I doubt I'd go see it, but I might watch it online or something, I always like strong feel leads, especially in action movies.

The Bang Bang Club

Genre:Action and Adventure
Director:Steven Silver
Cast:Ryan Phillippe, Malin Akerman, Taylor Kitsch

This looks awesome. It's about four combat photographers who are in South Africa and they're photographing in the first free election in post Apartheid South Africa in the early 90s. I have to say I love movies about Africa for some reason... okay I'm lying I loved Hotel Rwanda, but still this looks good and the guys are babes, no reason not to see it :). Also I think they don't make enough movies about photographers, I guess making a movie about a guy who spends all of his time at the beach taking pretty pictures would be dull, but I'm sure there are some personalities out there they could make movies about!

The Princess of Montpensier

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/theprincessofmontpensier/
Genre: Action and Adventure, Drama, Foreign
Director: Bertrand Tavernier
Cast: Melanie Thierry, Lambert Wilson, Gaspard Ulliel, Gregoire Leprince-Ringuet, Raphael Personnaz

The post for this one intruiged me cause I like historical fictions. The movie looks terrible though, it probably could have been good in the right hands, but it appears to be about a girl who's in love with one guy and is forced to marry another. Sorta reminds me of The Duchess, expect this is the french version. It also appears to have the French's favourite cinematic topic in it: sex. And a lot of it. That's all great and dandy, IF the movie has a good plot line. The only reason I would see it is because it's about the Protestant/catholic war, which could be kinda neat, but otherwise the trailer looks boring.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/snowflowerandthesecretfan/
Genre: Drama
Director: Wayne Wang
Writers: Ron Bass, Angela Workman, Michael Ray

This looks really cool! It's about two best friends who aren't just best friends throughout one life time, but throughout a bunch! There is also a book, which I want to read now. It does have the potential to be pretty cheesy, but from what I gleaned from the trail it looks to beautiful not to watch, I'd just see it for the cinematography, costumes and sets.

Queen To Play

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/queentoplay/
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Foreign
Director: Caroline Bottaro
Cast: Sandrine Bonnaire, Kevin Kline, Jennifer Beals, Valerie Lagrange, Francis Renaud

This looks cute-ish. It's about a woman who decides to play chess. Then there's all this drama cause her family doesn't want her too. I don't get it either. Chess, seriously? I'm possibly missing something or this movie just has a really strange premise. Anyway, def wouldn't see it and I'm also missing the part where it's a 'romance' I saw no romance happening in that trailer...maybe they gave to much to The Princess of Montpensier, who knows :P.

The Vintner's Luck

Links: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/thevintnersluck/
Genre:Drama, Romance
Director:Niki Caro
Cast:Jérémie Renier, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Vania Vilers, Eric Godon, Patrice Valota, François Beukelaers, Gaspard Ulliel, Stephane Garneau, Juliette Mariotte, Finn Van Mell, Charlotte Cheveau, Felicity-Amore Castle-Hughes, Julie Berthoux, Vera Farmiga, Jean-Louis Sbille

This one looks different and I want to see it! It's about a wine maker who meets a fallen angel who inspires him. I know that sounds strange, but it doesn't look that bad, really! I just like the scenery etc, can't help it that I'm hella visual! And the chick from Whale-Rider plays his wife :).

The Desert of Forbidden Art

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/thedesertofforbiddenart/
Genre:Documentary
Director:Tchavdar Georgiev, Amanda Pope

I immediately clicked on this when I saw the Soviet flag, even though I don't really watch documentaries that much. I just have a weird fascination with the USSR. This looks really really cool! It's about all of the art work which was banned durning the reign of the soviets! Some of it is stunning. All modernist looking art work (don't quote me on that I don't know what I'm talking about). I love art, and am fascinated with the USSR so I definitely want to see this one!

Heartbeats

Link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/heartbeats/
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Director: Xavier DolanCast:Xavier Dolan, Monia Chokri, Neils Schneider

This looks sort of okay... kind of just another indie love story... a love triangle non-the-less. But the clothing! BEAUTIFUL! I just about died when I saw that purple dress! Love 60's fashion :). And the girl's Audrey-Hepburn-Breakfast-At-Tiffany's do, Win! Also love Audrey Hepburn. I'd just see this movie for that, oh and not to mention the guys awesome stick-up-edward-esque hair, so great :P.

I was gonna post reviews of more trailers, but I just realized how long this already is, so ima stop posting them now. Maybe I'll do another post in the future, this was kinda fun!

A sad fact.

Since being in university for the past 2 and a half years (give or take) I have yet to receive an A on any major papers for any class! This has been something which has eaten away at me so much that I would wonder what the point was if I couldn't even write a decent paper. I know someone out there is cringing and going 'grades aren't everything!' but when your an English major AND you want to be a writer its a real slap in the face to have comments like 'doesn't have a good grasp on the English language' (which I still think is untrue, I just have a bad grasp on grammar). Yeah, ouch, real disheartening.

Last semester was the worst for this. I took a modernist British novel class, which was swains and I loved, but I couldn't seen to get the papers quite right. The final paper ended up being a complete disaster. My topic was terrible and I basically spent three days editing the paper, and only got a c+. Considering I edited that paper more than any other and yeah...:( looking back I realize I should have changed my topic, and started it earlier so I could've hit up the writing centre or Kirstie and/or Raya. Now I know better and received a grade I feel like I DESERVE!

Thankfully I'm basically feeling better about everything cause this is actually a pretty hard class (for me) and I thought I was gonna fail it, for a moment there. That just, like, made my day n'shit :). So far this week is a million times better than last week, now if I only do this well on my the English paper ima get back tomorrow! Fingers crossed, but it's unlikely, that one was written the day before :S.

Essays, writing, and such

I think about writing a lot. It's kind of a problem, because sometimes I really don't care about anything else. And today, I realized something sad. The topic I like to write about the most is me. I wish this was otherwise or I enjoyed writing other things, but I don't. There are a couple of factors which contribute to this fact. First, I often feel as if I don't have the authority to write about other people or to write certain genres because I'm not a "good enough writer yet", or it's just to much work. Writing this, is not work to me. It is pure enjoyment. Maybe some people will say that is wrong, that writing should always be hard, but I don't believe that, I don't think that it has to be hard all the time. Writing the first thing which pops into your head is awesome and relaxing, maybe not always the best results, but its good for you.

The second thing, as a student, I spend a lot of time writing for other people about things I don't always care that much about. I hate to confess this, but honestly, I don't give a fuck what Burney's views, as displayed in Evelina, were about classes or gender relations. Honest, I don't. This is why I have chosen writer over professor for my first choice career.

Another thing I have to had here about my writing and me (sorry that sounds like a bad self-help book) is that I think I'm WAAAAAY to passionate about it, and no-where near talented or skilled enough in it (yet!) to justify this. It worries me. It makes me fall down harder than I should, which is a problem because I am definitely a bottler (as in I bottle things up) I tend to only portray part of myself to the world, the part I think they should see. This is because I spend most of my time inside my own head and do it unintentionally and because it's a lot easier to pretend sometimes, even necessary.

Okay I was just intending to take a quick break from a paper and definitely got distracted and wrote waaaaaaay more than I meant too (apologies for the emphasized waaaaaay, I just needed to get that out of my system :P). Now I go back to writing about Ghost Writer, which is awesome btw and you'll should read it. The essay inspired this post. Tootles for now lovelies.

Noise

I'm sitting here watching TV with my grandparent's, and I noticed that my grandmother has her hand in an awkward position against the side of her head, as if she was cupping something...

I realized, as she turned up the TV to a nice, loud, can-hear-through-the-whole-house volume, that she can't hear the TV very well. This almost had the ability to shock me, yet it didn't, I simply wondered how shocked she would be coming to my moms house and hearing how low we keep our volume in comparison.

Both my grandparents are hard of hearing, yet my grandfather is the only one with a hearing aid. He hates it. My grandmother declares she will not get one. How does one go about forcing someone to do something they really are set against? I don't know.

I wish I could explain what it's like living with old people, it can be awesome because they are so kind and understanding, but awful because they just don't get it, they don't get me. I sometimes feel like we're different species, well we are at least from a different era. That sounds so terribly emo, but it's so very true in my case, both them and me are to polite and cautious to behave in our usual manner, you could even say to mild I suppose.

I feel bad complaining, because as I sit here, watching my grandmother with her hand cupped around her ear, I'm watching coverage from Japan, the misery, destruction, pain, hope, and humanity of it all. I realize everyone is blogging about this, but I feel like it's not something I can ignore. I'm scared for those people and amazed by their strength, I'm angry at their government for withholding information, but I see the point, I don't understand and I don't want to be there, but I feel bad about it.

I want to know what happened to Arisa Suzuki, an exchange student who stayed with my family in the spring of 2009. I don't know what happened to her, she lived in Natori, I know that many other people with exchange students don't know what happened to their students either and there are many exchange students who don't know what happened to their families. I just, I want to know!

A mystery guitar man (with glasses)

Lately, I have put my love life on the back burner completely. I just have to many other commitments to even care about it, but then there are some days I kinda wish I hadn't. Days like today. When a perfectly friendly, nice looking stranger attempts to amuse and make conversation with you. I actually feel pretty bad for the guy, not only did I shoot down his efforts at conversation, I also made him miss the bus. And as any singleton knows, even one who has decided to set aside their love-life for the present, there is always a little regret involved when you reject someone unintentionally, no matter how unlikely the outcome of pursuit may have been. There is always that moment of WHAT WAS I THINKING! He had guitar AND glasses! Truly! What was I thinking???? Oh well there's always next week on the bus...so much for putting my love-life on hold...

Mystery-glasses-guitar-man, know, that just for a moment I may have been interested in you and know that I will always wonder what may have happened. As I will wonder what happened with so many other men I dared not pursue.

YAY!

I had a semi-job interview today, I guess you could call it a meeting of some sort. It was for a news paper and magazine company in my home town, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I ended up with much more than I bargained for! The editor asked me what I was interested, I of course, immediately said writing. She offered me the choice to write some pieces for the paper to help build my portfolio! :D I am soooo pleased and sooooo nervous! She wants a reporter, a real-life journalist, I don't know if I can deliver or not, since I've never done this before! Gah! So nervy about writing it! My first article I mean. I want it to be perfect and for her to LOVE me, because she was so amazing and nice the entire time. Okay amazing is a little bit of an overstatement, but she knows her shit, I can see that and she's trying to do something which she loves, which I really admire. She also seemed pleased when I said I knew there was no money in the business I am choosing, she seemed to realize how passionate I am about it when I said that. At least I hope that she did. I really need to think of an amazing article to write and I want to get it to her for next week! Eeeeeeeeeck! I know I can do this, it's just super nerve racking for me! But I figure if she gives me a reference next year I can get a job at a paper that is a little larger, such as the Martlet! (which I am definitely going to pursue because I need the experience). Okay bed time, dunno if i'ma sleep though, way to wound up!

My neglected poetry

Last year poetry was my big thing. I wrote tons of poetry for months, and loved writing it. Mind you, most of it sorta sucked, it I like writing in that manner. I just wanna say a couple of things about my poetry before ya'll start criticizing me for it. I tend to write with a lot of random line breaks, not very much rhyme and no meter. Why? because it's boring. Okay, it isn't actually, but I really just don't like that stuff, when I write about something I want to just say it. I am just starting accept punctuation :S. Basically, I think the words are the most important part, so that's what I tend to focus on. Anyway this was all leading up to a poem I'm writing just for you! Hope you like it, feel free to say whatever you think, I love the feedback :)

The Delicate Flower

We named it the Delicate Flower,
my sister and I.

Blue and silver, dented and chipped all over,
nothing flower like.

The black, plastic, screen stares out at me,
lacking its former pixels.

I can remember holding it in my hand,
the plastic was always warm in my hand, sweaty even.

The hidden keys became popular with use and gain black spots,
and the letters slowly disappearing with the days.

The frustration when I wouldn't get a text,
when the body split apart with a snap and the screen black.

I dropped you, so many many many times,
so you began to drop my calls.

(can you guess yet?)

Such a silly thing, to be attached to a phone,
yet the only way to talk.

Oscars and such

I suppose I should talk about the Oscars because it's such a big deal or whatever. Sadly, this year it really wasn't that exciting for me. Usually I love the oscars, but I ended up watching them with my grandparents who are both very hard of hearing so the TV was turned up to 20 (in other words MUCH to loud!) and they would talk every few minutes, ESPECIALLY when something important/awesome was going down. Then, just as they were going to announce best picture, a different channel cut in! My grandparents had no idea what had happened for a good 5 minutes before they checked the TV guide and found it on another channel. Basically I missed best picture :(.

Another reason why I found it kinda lame was because I read all the "predictions" and basically knew who was going to win. Since they were all right it kinda sucked, I like the surprise of the oscars, I like to have unexpected people or movies to win! There was none of that tonight. The last thing that sucks is that I was supposed to go to my friends oscar party, which sounded super fun and shit, but as I had to work, was super hung over, and I had procrastinated way to much I was unable to go :(. I also missed the red carpet because I was working and I showed up late so I stayed an extra half hour, so lame since that's my favourite part! Anyway I basically think the Oscars, for me anyway, kinda blew this year. It was a good show otherwise, but a little lacking, the jokes weren't that funny (except Marilyn Monroe that was great) and I got tired of watching presenters read off of the teleprompters, so annoying! Anyway I'm gonna go look up some movie trailers now (because the oscars always makes me want to watch EVERYTHING) and I'ma check out all the sexy celebs in there beautiful get-ups! I guess there is something to be said for the oscars, they sure know how to put on a show.

Sooooooooooo stunning!

The inspirational women list! (first ever cheesy "inspiration" list, don't judge!)

I need to apologize first. I don't usually like writing lists like this, so I'm gonna try and make it as painless and un-sappy as possible, promise! I'd also like you to note that this list is in no particular order, it's just a list of people who inspire me/are cool an' shit. Okay here me go!

1. Michelle Phan
Because: she's isn't another bimbo on youtube just doing make-up tutorials, she has actually created career for herself, an extremely successful career. I also admire how honest and open she is with her viewers, there is never any bullshit about it, she tells them how it is with out being cynical or bitchy. That is what I admire the most. She makes me want to help starving children and rescue puppies! She makes me want to be a better person basically, to get out there and help people.

2. Chriselle Lim
Because: I listed Michelle, she has also created a complete business for herself. I love how she starts as a model then realizes she wants to do more, my theory is: she realized she was too intelligent for the job. Her shear drive and professionalism. It makes me believe that I can accomplish anything, maybe I don't know what that is yet and I'll take a couple different paths, but I'll get there.

3. Tamora Pierce
Because: she has written sooooo many good books and they all have empowered females in them. Also she made me love reading, stories and books in general. I owe a lot to this woman. She makes me see that author's can be successful writing in a genre they love and she makes me want to be a better writer.

4. Oprah Winfery
Because: she awesome. Sure they're some things about her I love to hate, but at the end of the day her story is so inspiring and what she does for the world that it's really hard to hate on her. She makes me want to work hard enough to be really successful and meet her :P
No really though, she makes me see what hard work and dedication to something you love can do.

5. Jane Austen
Because: she had mad writing skillz. I love writers, especially female ones. Jane Austen has to be the one who has effected my life the most, I grew up reading her books, having them read to me and watching film adaptations of her books. I love that her writing is so timeless and her sense of humour was amazing. The fact that she started writing so young and had so many books published is pretty awesome, especially in an era where women weren't treated as equals. She makes me realize how much easier I have it in a lot of ways. Not to sound as if it's really easy or something, it isn't. But i'm pretty lucky, imagining what her life was like makes me grateful for all the options I have in mine. Also she was such an amazing writer, the way she creates memorable characters, characters with human flaws, yet keeps them in a frame work appropriate for herself as a writing is amazing. Her use of satire is my favourite part, I want to write like that one day.

6. Tina Fey
Because: she is hilarious. Everything I've seen her in is awesome. I also completely relate to Liz Lemon, which I don't actually think is a good thing :S. She just makes me want to be funny and make people laugh and smile more.

7. Natalie Portman
Because: She is such a stunning actress, legit. Every role i've seen her in is awesome, she just gets right into and does her thing, and she incredible at it. Even in bad movies she, some how, comes out doing well. Also she is so goddamn talented! It makes me want to follow what I'm good at so I can be as good at it as she is at acting. (I just have to figure out what that is :S)

8. The Bronte Sisters
Because: they wrote all their books from there isolated living situation. It just shows that you don't have to have all these great life experiences to be a great writer. Which gives me hope for myself :P.

9. Queen Elizabeth I
Because: really? Do I need to explain this one? Okay fine!
She's ruled a kingdom, very successfully, at a time when women had no power, at a time when it was not thought that a women was capable of running a kingdom AND she did it all with out getting married. She was also highly educated and intelligent for her time. I've adored her for some long I don't know how you couldn't think she was fucking amazing.

10. Charlotte Smith
Because: she was forced to take care of her family, through her writing! She is also considered the first woman of letters, which is pretty sweet. Her poems are amazing (in my opinion) the elegiac sonnets were my favourite, so lovely, so melancholy, well written, awesome.

11. Sylvia Plath
She is such a sob story, yet her writing is so powerful. I love that about her, (also i just love a good tragedy :S). She had a difficult go of it, living in a time when they didn't have fancy drugs or therapies of mental illness. It's just to bad that she died so young, I always find that the most heart breaking part because she could have gone on to write so much more! I sometimes just want to emulate the power and directness of her writing, it makes you stop and gasp or catch your breath, that is what I love about her.

12. Lady Gaga
Because: she is so goddamn inventive! I'm sorry, but I realize every era has that one person that does crazy shit, also don't tell me she is "copying" I'm copying. Your copying. That is a natural side product of human society, we all copy someone, we get our ideas and inspiration from some where. Anyway I love her. The meat dress? I'm sorry but that did it for me, the statement alone there was awesome.

13. Gwen Stefani
Because: She's fun. No Doubt was just some kids messing around and they became successful and were, in my opinion, pretty awesome. Then she grew up, she actually did, not like some stars who just grow older and still party and mess around. No, Gwen got married and had a baby, (possibly two? I don't really follow this shit) and she disappeared for awhile, which i admire. She took some time out to be with family and that is really important. And anyone who is following her on fb or twitter knows she is working on a new album :)!

14. Emily Haines
Because: I love her voice! I love her lyrics and her band. I think I have heard almost every song and they're all awesome. I looooover her lol. I find her lyrics amazing, sometimes a little emo, but I'm a sucker for emoness so that's okay. It just reminds me of poetry and contains some really awesome imagery which is different from other stuff I've heard. I know she's sorta passe now or whatever, but I still love her. Legit.

15. My mom.
Because: um duh she's my mom. I know this list just got super cheesy and your feeling finished with it. I dunno I just think that if your mom doesn't inspire you on some level, that would kind of suck. My mom is pretty amazing. She KNIT me an entire SWEATER for Christmas for christ sakes, without me even knowing (albeit I don't really live at home anyway). Don't lie, your a little jealous and now thinking that's pretty awesome. She's also the most amazing cook I know. I don't know what i'll do when I have to cook for my self, probably just starve.

16. My nana
Because: she is an amazing woman. She raised 5 kids! 5! I mean I can't imagine raise one or two, let alone five! Also she has good manners, yet some how always says what ever is on her mind. She can be blunt and honest, yet some how has tact. She is a little old fashioned, but it's mostly cute. She once when I was helping in the kitchen she told me it was good practice for when I had a husband. At first I was a little mad, but I got over it quickly. Another time she sent me a thank-you card with a good looking mexican guy on it. Cheekily adding his name inside. Such an old tart.

Anyway this is my list! Hopefully it's not to lame/weird/long/short/etc
I don't really know if I explained how the people inspire me enough, but whatevs it's a first list. Also you may have noticed I really enjoy lists, not sure why this is, but yeah there might be a lot of them in the future.

Definition of Destiny; or Terri really bored.

Here is a list.
Iused to write these lists all the time in High School. One day I decided I didn't want that much personal information floating around the interwebz so I deleted them all. It hurt. No I'm kidding, it didn't, I just stopped caring about them, I just wrote them because I was like in love with this guy and I didn't want to tell him, but I wanted to tell him, so I wrote the lists. I kind of become infamous for them, so when I decided to stop posting them I wrote a "farewell" not letting everyone know there would be no more notes! Sadly some people said they would miss them. The only thing I miss about them is that they ate up all my boredom. But now, I can focus on other kinds of writing, such as this blog, which is really the only writing I'm doing right now, besides school stuff (hence all the lengthy posts!). So for old times sake, here's a list, not a super personal one or anything, just a music list. What should this post be about... hmmmmm

The other night, as I was falling asleep, I had a really good idea for a blog post and I couldn't wait to get on the computer and write it! Now here I am, the next evening and guess what? I have no idea what that post was! I'm sure it was pretty cool though... like:
Babies!

Who doesn't like cute little pink and innocent babies? yeah not much to talk about there...unless you have one, then the topics are never ending... I do not yet posse a baby, nor is there any future plan to have one so that topic is out.

Or

Cats! Okay cats actually aren't as cute as something even more awesome, KITTENS! (imagine a drum roll before "kittens"). They aren't actually that exciting to write about though... just exciting to look at...errr not like that guys! Sooooo cute.... ^_^

Okay I don't know why I keep thinking of only cute things... my brain is sooo tired . ugh.

I suppose I could talk about literature or writing, but honestly that's what I do all day in school, well for like three hours at least... the other 4/5 hours I spend talking about school or people and reading. That is it.

So no literature or writing. Today this will be a lit and writing free blog post! Expect that I've already introduced the topic...and I'm writing it... okay okay I see the ironies there.

Lets talk about KNITTING! (no not kitten, stop misreading that and getting excited! geez).
I've actually been doing a lot of knitting lately, well starting knitting projects anyway. I am currently working on a pair of fingerless gloves right now. Very beautiful purple yarn, lots of fun.

Sorry I don't have a picture of my work-in-progress yet, just been busy and lazy! Any who interwebz homies that will be all!

Play: the jealous social networking (untitled)

I got this idea into my head that it would be fun to write a play focused on social networking and the hazards associated with becoming too obsessed with it and with someone. The concept of the play is a little different. It will involve the main character (Becca) boyfriends page with pictures, comments, status etc projected on a screen behind Becca in the scenes where she is shown on the computer so that the play go-ers know what's up and why Becca is continually moody and upset throughout the play.

Hopefully this works out okay and isn't to difficult. I still haven't worked out how to incorporate the facebook projections in yet. I think maybe a screen will be down, with Becca off to the side and a spot light on her, the screen would have to go up when ever she closed the computer or someone came into the room to talk to her. The scene with her pacing around and talking about John and why she's upset (she thinks he's cheating) will be the most difficult because it will have her going back and forth from pacing to the computer. I thought about making this a movie instead but it would be way to slow paced for a movie, in my opinion, and I just like the idea of staging it. It's a simply story about jealous and insecurity when you come down too it, really nothing new.

Anyway if you have any thoughts at all LET ME KNOW! I *may* post part of a rough draft up after I've written it, so far I only have the outline/stage directions down. It's already five acts! So surprised how quickly I moved along with it! Also I haven't got a title, what is in the subject line is only a working title, so if you've got any good ideas for that let me know! Thanks guys :)

UPDATE: Makings some changes!

I can already imagine that some of you are going to read this and cringe. Some of you will want to point out the irony that the first thing on this list is exactly what I'm doing. I'm aware. This is the best way in which I can reach the most people and have the most support with my goals. I know that this is pretty cheesy (I'm cringing as I write this) but sharing goals is a great step towards achieving them. So that is what I'm doing.

I would like to also mention that I just had a really bad day, I'm possibly delirious due to being sick with some sort of virus so I may or may not regret doing this in a few hours.

Some aspects of my life I need to deal with/change/do:

1. Use the computer LESS.
This includes my iphone and definitely is refering to facebook the most. It interfers with other, more important, things (such as school and writing) which I would like to focus my energy on. It also interfers with my sleep schedule, and IS a contributating factor in my insomnia.

2. Complete readings and assignments in a timely fashion (i.e. IN TIME).
I am a procrastinator. I don't do things until I must and when I do do them I tend to do as little as I can get away with or have time for. I then complain about why I don't get better grades and feel extreme disappiontment that I will not be able to continue with my schooling (i.e. grad school).
a) I need to get over the gut rentching fear of leaving school. I like seeing my friends everyday, I like conversation and goofing off, but it cannot go on forever as much as I would like it too and the sooner I deal with acting like a child, the sooner I can accept being a grown up (not to say that acting like a child is a bad thing, but sometimes you just have to be an adult).

3. Write everyday!
This is pretty self-explanatory. I want to be a writer. Yet, here I am, barely writing at all. I always open my computer intending to work on something, but then... I never really finish it– or like it for that matter. I know that I need practice and that I could be very talented. Maybe people out there disagree, but when I put my mind to it, I am a good writer. It is truly what I enjoy doing, that and conversation. If I can get myself (once again) into the habit of writing I think it will reduce a lot of stress in my life and I'll feel better.

4. Get enough sleep.
8 or 9 hours would be ideal, but I'll have to ease myself into it. Right now, I especially need a lot of sleep as I am sick. If you see me up late on facebook or msn (which I shouldn't even be using) please remind me that I need to go to bed. I am very tired of being sick all the time (if you spend any time with me AT ALL you know that this is true) and of being tired and stressed out. It is unhealthy.

Lastly I'd like to say that your support in these goals would be amazing. They are all aspects of my life which I KNOW I need to change. It might be difficult and gradual, but I think that I will be happier if I can feel like I accomplished something at the end of the day. I know that this note is at the high end of the cheese scale, which I apologize for, but I feel that it is a necessary step to getting where I want to be (i.e. not HERE!).
Please text me your support (etc) because I will be checking facebook less.

Egypt and other non-sense!

The uprising in Egypt caught my attention right away. I am completely fascinated by revolutions, dictatorships and oppression. Probably because I grew up in a country as free and liberal as Canada. I have no concept of what living in a nation in Egypt's situation would feel like. Let's just say I sit in front of the news every chance I get, just to see if they are "free" yet or if Hosni Mubarak has done anything drastic at all. He hasn't.

Saying that you will "talk" to people or will step down in the next election are obvious opt-outs. I don't pretend to know very much about politics, just basics, nor do I know very much about Egypt's economy or social situation, but I do see a country which has been oppressed, a young nation which is ready to break free and become something new, something about the people. That I find very inspiring. I send my love and support out to all of the protesters in Egypt, I truly believe in there cause and hope that it is met in the most peaceful way possible, though this seems less and less likely as the president continues to refuse to step down.

On to less important things...

I need to complain about complaining. I do a lot of it, sometimes I just don't know what to say or how to act towards someone so I might complain something. Something we can both hate on together. Buses, for instance, or printing massive paper or photocopying entire sections of books for an entire HOUR! Not fun. The state of university tuitions, the lack of bunnies. There are so many things I can complain about, it's getting ridiculous! So for this blog I want to generate some new conversation topics, besides the obvious go-to's such as the weather and news. There are so many exciting things to converse about, so why aren't we talking about them! Here are some I've come up with:

Dictators. Why don't more people talk about oppressed countries? I don't just mean Egypt or which ever one is in the news that week, just in general, even historical dictators, so fascinating!

People watching. Okay I'll admit, my friends and I do this. We'll see someone hilarious and start making fun of them, or just making general observations. No harm in this as long as they don't overhear you. If there is a case when you want them to overhear you, then at least try to make them embarrassed. i.e. the other day at school I was facebooking in one of the eating places and I overheard a guy sitting behind me say to his girlfriend that he loved creeping on people randomly facebooking at school. Awkward silence in both of our (separate) conversations, but still, great moment. It reminded me that there are people around you, equally aware.

Talk about a subject the other person knows little or nothing about OR get them talking about a subject you know little or nothing about. This sounds like it defeats the idea of small talk (or maybe you think this idea is very transparent and want me to stop) but you are actually learning about a new subject, which can be really fun and informative or your teaching the other person about a new subject as well (this could lead them to think your pretentious or condescending if you pick a subject which is beyond there capacities to comprehend so please take heed to not go over the other persons head!).

I suppose that's all I have right now, my mouth hurts and it's much to late for this, so good night for now!

Google mystery and avoiding hitting the books

So right now my sister just introduced me to "google mystery" it is basically a search engine where you receive other peoples searches instead of your own. I find this very fascinating in that people are already using it as a way to connect and interact with others by posting "missions", questions, directing people to there websites or emails. Very interesting to way to connect with others I am having lots of fun with this! :)

In other news I kind of have this paper to write... one that's due Monday and once again i am just failing to write it... whatever apparently i just don't care enough or something. FML

I gotta go now
Peace

Psych...maybe I do know something?

I'm really good at failing to study, talented at it in fact. This note expresses some of that extreme talent...lately all I've wanted to do is write and not study. I don't really care how fast people for get sensory memories, it just reminds me how fragile they are. I hate that when people say, "at least you have the memory of it/them/that/whatever cause memory isn't really real or constant, it grows and changes over time, warps to what we wanted the moment to be, I know when I'm remembering a moment it isn't really real, it's just me taking the bare minimum of those few seconds and highlighting what I want to matter, then elaborating on this. Memories change and grow, just as thoughts and ideas do, because that is simply all they are. Thoughts and ideas of the past. We can't really rely on them for any sort of truth of explanation because they are never really that accurate, ah but now I am just repeating my self!

Neglect

Okay so I know that I am supposed to post these every Wednesday, but that has just not been happening for me...I have been way to busy with school! I know, I know pritorize, time manganment, whatever. This isn't really on the top of my list...it actually didn't even make the cut for the list :P

Anyway I guess I should start with an update and a note on the reason I've been so busy...Its because of school, okay? SCHOOL!

I've had a lot of moments lately where I haven't known what is going on with my life or myself, but for the moment I'm just gonna sit back and try and just enjoy what life is throwing at me, and take whatever bad stuff that comes along as best as I can. Right now everything is pretty good, school is going well so far, though still need to study more...haha

I am falling asleep...i'll try to write something again sooooon, but it probably wont happen...gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Good Night!

Keeping myself sane...

I completely intended to post this last night, well that just didn't happen! So yesterday was my first day back, and damn did it go better than I expected. First off I assumed I would eventually run into people I knew and some of my friends, I just didn't think I would run into so many of them in one day. My classes went well as well. Profs all seem to be pretty cool, and the classes are definitely interesting. So I'm going to give a brief run down on the day, starting with English, then going through to Religious studies and lunch with Ariana and Sydney, also I had a fun bus ride back with Sydney so I'll toss some details of that in to...I may finish this off later on though since I don't have to catch the bus in an hour here...

The day started off good, I woke up to discover a GIANT spider crawling in my bed (as in under the covers in, not over them!). Since I basically loath spiders I kind of just ran out of the room and enlisted my grandfather to help, who was more than happy to be useful to me. The rest of the morning went by with out a hitch, showered, dressed, ate, ran out the door towards the bus stop which is literary a minute or two from my house. Still some how missed the bus I wanted to catch, but no worries there. Finally I made it to school and my first class. English. Now my friend Julia had warned me that the prof was pretty boring and that she had hated him, so I was expecting some, well, boring. The prof I got is alright, not really that great or anything, but he seemed nice enough and tried his best to be helpful which is all you can ask really, well I mean besides being a good teacher and knowing the subject haha, bot those are kind of obvious.

Second class of the day was Psychology which, as I expected, was a very intro-y course. The type for first years where they just assume you don't know how to do anything, and explain it all too you? Yeah so it was completely boring. If I hadn't had to attend the first day, I wouldn't have bothered. I was, however, surprised to see my cousin sitting in one of the back rows when I walked in, scanning for a seat. We sat together, but then basically failed to talk about anything because neither of us really have anything in common to talk about...maybe this class will change that? Another "intro-y" thing that this class did, that I found hilarious, was a warning about the swine flu and how if you were feeling even the least little bit sick, not to come to school at all, this just made me laugh because nobody in there right mind is going to bother missing school because they feel like they could be getting sick, though this is a rather good preventative method I really feel that it isn't going to work. I mean think about all the people that would abuse that, profs everywhere will be getting emails, "Dear Professor some and some I was feeling a little bit under the weather today and decide that for the benefit of the other students, it would probably be wise for me to stay home today...etc" well really that person is sitting at home all day with friends/room mates playing video games or out at the mall shopping. Its just so silly.

After Psychology I had intended to go and get a locker, but bumped into Andrea, a girl who I had previously taken french with, we decided to catch up on each others goings on and eat together. As always Andrea had been up to something super cool sound and do-gooder-y, which is why I like her. After we ate and talked, we split into our different directions. She headed to the library while I headed towards the SUB. On my way I bumped into more friends from last year, Julia and Nicole, two hilarious awesome girls from my history class. So of course it was mandatory for me to stop and catch up with them (and I am sure they will be two people I will see plenty more of!) I talked with them until I had to go to my next class, which was Religious Studies, which I am sure will become my favourite.

When I first got to the class room I was unsure as to weather I should go in or not, it seemed like there were a lot of people waiting in the hall, but only a couple of class rooms in that general area, finally I decided that it was in fact safe to enter the room and find the seat. I had already decided on the second row and chose one relatively in the middle. As more and more people arrived I began to wounder what had happened to the prof, and why he was showing up late to his first unit of the course. Finally about 5 minutes late the prof and TA showed up. The first thing I thought when I saw him was this is exactly what I expected. He was a middle aged man, with one of those shoulder bags one often associates with hippies or students and a simple sweater on with shorts and dress shoes despite the rain. He immidently apoglized for there late arrival and began talking about the course and him self. The TA was less homely looking, she was about my height but with black hair, and blunt bangs, she wore low cut jeans and heels, and was stunning looking, like some sort of hollywood actress or model. She didn't speak the entire class, just smiled and handed out the course outlines. She had some sort of forigein (maybe russian?) sounding name. I couldn't help but watching her, she was calm and impassive looking, there was no pretensiousness or any self absorption on her face. Like some other pretty girls.

That was all for the course, after RS I went to meet Ariana outside of the library and bumped into Sydney instead, so the three of us ended up going and eating lunch (snack, in my case) in the biblio cafe, which in my opinion is the best place to eat on campus, of course, i haven't really eaten anywhere else besides the cafeteria, but so far that is my opinion. Ariana and Sydney seemed to get along well and we all just chatted about our classes, profs and other school related subjects, finally we took a trip down to Ariana's locker and then walked her part way to class. After Sydney and I went to catch the 26, there were a few other things which delayed us from catching the bus right away, but they were not related to me so I will not include them here. We caught a bus finally after much debate as to which bus we should catch and had an entertaining bus ride together, to langford exchange.

That was a rather brief and uninteresting account of my first day back, but that is the only way I can put it down at this point since I have already forgotten many details as that day has been eclisped by this one. I will maybe write more tomorrow, but probably not till next week. Maybe next wednesday anyway I must go make something to eat before work. Thats all for now, Peace

Blogging

Wow I suck at updating this, don't I? I really plan to do better in the future since I will be going back to school soon and not really seeing my friends very much. Maybe I'll use this as a way to keep in contact with people? Thoughts? I'll try and do it weekly anyway, maybe every Sunday or something like that

Any way as I mentioned above I am starting school soon, Wednesday, to be exact and its sort of a love/hate thing cause I know that right now I want to go back, back to the routine of classes and papers and having something interesting to do. At the same time, I know a month or two into school, I'll kind of hate it. All the papers, annoying and great profs and reading, oh the reading...that is what kills me every time. I still just love school thought. All the people and the diversity of it all. I really want to meet some cool new people this year, thats kind of my goal. I also really want to get better grades, my goal there is to get an A in one of my subjects (hopefully English).

This year I also plan to get a locker, something I didn't know I could do last year. That will be a huge help cause I wont have to lug so much stuff around that way. I always felt so stupid carrying around my lunch and books. So dorky. I also have learned something about planning, it is not a good idea to have two hour long breaks in the morning or to not have any sort of break at all. I tried it both ways last year so now I know better.

I want to do more social stuff as well, I'm planning to do a buddy program and take some dance classes. Ballet, god I miss it. The buddy program would mean I would get to meet some cool exchange students, show them around campus do cool things with them. Totally my thing, for sure. I want try and make some other friends as well, I mean I love the friends I do have, I just need to make more connections at the school. It will be a good thing for me. A study group would be a good idea to do this year as well. Hopefully I can find some people in some of my course to make one with, that would be awesome.

Now for my list of goals for the year:
(I've outlined them above, just need something more substantial)

1. earn an A in one of my courses
2. make some new friends
3. have a balanced life, i.e. not to much studying, but not too much fun either
4. have a locker, a lunch break and time to study everyday
5. remember to go out once in awhile (movies, dinner, clubing)

Now for the stuff I am looking forwards to at school:

1. having structure again
2. not as much working
3. all the cute UVic boys (yeah I know I'm shallow)
4. seeing my uvic friends
5. meeting new people
6. all of my classes
7. lunches with friends at camosun or uvic

Yeah so I am kind of so excited about school...REALLY excited!!!
Gaaaaaah I know in about a week or to i'll be bored and home sick and hating all the papers, but for now I'm just going to focus on the postative stuff and not worry about the negative cause its just not worth it.

Okay thats all for now, I'm going to focus all my attention on Dirty Dancing and a book.

Peace, ya'll
